Linking Tips - The 'Yes" The "No"

1. How many links should you have on your site? You should have at least 1 more than your competitors in order to get higher rankings. You should also try to get at lease one listing in the Open Directory Project.

2. What websites should I link to? You should link to other sites with high rankings that are well visited and most of all the content on their site is relevant to yours

3. What free listings should I submit to? You should start with submitting your link to all the directory listings you can find that are relevant to your site. Directories can increase your site popularity because usually a human is manually adding them and the link is considered more valuable.

4. Reciprocal Links? It is good to get reciprocal links from sites with information to yours. It is also good to just have some sites linking to you without a reciprocal link. Kind of like if they think enough of you to add you to their site without adding you to theirs. Kind of makes you seem more popular in the rankings. Try to find content relevant but non-competing sites which can be tricky.

5. Link to resources from your site that is appropriate to yours like weather, news, industry specific information etc.

6. The "no's" make sure you avoid using a link program that seek out search engines for the purpose of looking for possibly linking opportunities because it overloads the search engine servers, and you could be penalized for this practice.

7. More "no's" avoid Link Farms because search engines consider this spamming and will penalize you for it.

If it is super easy than it probably is not preferred by the search engines. If there is a little work involved on your part, then your efforts will be rewarded.
