A place where you can not only find themes to download, but also find related/similar themes, and also rank them and see what others have ranked.

Whew! It has been a while since I last emailed everyone (or at least feels like it), and quite a bit has happened.

First off - MapStats is fixed! Not only fixed, but move to its own server. We did a lot of tweaks - just to give an idea, what was taking 100 seconds before now takes only 1.66 seconds. The page should also load much faster - from a 5-7 second load time down to ~1 second. GrabPerf agrees: http://www.grabperf.org/homepage.php?page=scatter&test=136&hours=24 (it is that little green/yellow splotch on the right).

I also wanted to thank everyone for being patient with us. Lots of people let us know about the issues we were having - as always, we keep updates on our blog for anything that might be going on: http://blog.blogflux.com/

We are not out of the woods just set - we are monitoring things, but likely LinkLog will also be moved soon. With this last server move, it will mean Blog Flux is now split across four servers - one for the Page Rank checker (and ancillary subdomains), one for MapStats, one for LinkLog, and one for the main site/directory.

Speaking of our Page Rank checker - I was looking over some numbers, and we have checked the PR for almost 25,000,000 unique pages!
Just thought I would share some interesting numbers :)
Moving along, Blog Flux also crossed the landmark '10,000' blogs verified and listed. This is good news because the more blogs we have, the better our 'related' feature works for every blog listed. Eg AJAX Review - http://dir.blogflux.com/weblog/4026.html The related blogs actually are related (fancy that!) and a reader of the listed blog would likely be interested in these other blogs. It.s a feature we don't get a lot of attention for, but I think it is one of the best ways to find new and interesting blogs. Blog Flux Suggest is also another (albeit weird) way of finding blogs if you are exploring.

With all this talk of where Blog Flux is, I wanted to also mention my latest project - iBegin. I have a spiel all written out online, but iBegin is basically an attempt to create a local search that is actually useful. You can find more information at http://www.ibegin.com/about/ and http://www.ibegin.com/wth/ The system is currently in private beta, and if you are interested in trying it out, register on the site :). Toronto is our beta-test city so if you are a fellow Torontonian definitely go register. Feedback has between 'cool' to 'great' so it might just be worth checking out!

I also wanted to say that we will be launching another Blog Flux section within 72 hours. It isn't exactly 'revolutionary', but I think there is a void for what we are releasing it. It also marks the first section created by Jacob (who has been approving blogs and answering emails for a while now). More on him in a few weeks!

MapStats is currently counting roughly 325,000 unique visitors a day and 600,000 pageviews a day with over 1500 blogs using it. LinkLog has over 500 blogs actively using it, and has tracked almost 500,000 clicks. Here is some information that Adobe emailed us and we thought it might be helpful to email it to you.

Are your reports and proposals overgrown with different file types —
title pages in Microsoft� Word, text sections in Excel, charts in Visio
and graphics in CAD? With Acrobat, you'll tie them all into one beautiful
bouquet. Convert multiple file types to Adobe PDF and then
simultaneously merge them into a single PDF document.

1) Save the files you want to convert into one folder, so they're easy to
locate.

2) Choose File > Create PDF > From Multiple Files. Or click "Create
PDF" and choose "From Multiple Files."

3) Click "Browse" (Windows�) or "Choose" (Mac� OS�), and then select
one or more files. Click "Add." Click "Browse" or "Choose" again to
add files from a different folder.

4) Order the files as you want them to appear by clicking and dragging

No more spam. If you think the google does not see your spamming techniques, think again - they see it and with penalize you for it. Web Masters - you are sealing your sites fate with spamming.

cloaking:

Cloaking as defined is a process of providing search engine crawlers pages different than what a browser would see looking at your site. This is not a good idea and you can be penalized for it.

Some cloaking methods are okay according to google, specifically if you are adjusting your URLs to make them more accessible by spiders and not just forcing content their way.

Blog Flux Update

It has been a while since we sent out an email, and a few things have happened since then.

First off, Google has updated the public PageRank value. For those using our PageRank Checker - http://pr.blogflux.com - we have cleared our cache so the new PageRank values should be showing. On that same vein, we have updated our tracker to be a 301 redirect. Those concerned about SEO values etc and us using a redirector - you can relax about that now!

Secondly, I was off to some conference and have fallen behind a bit. In fact, as of right now there are 261 blogs waiting approval. It is a balancing act - keeping quality high with manual verification while also making sure blogs get approved fast enough. With that, I am happy to announce that a new team member has been added to the site. He will be helping with approving blogs and adding even more features. So those still waiting to be approved - sorry, we will get to you.

Lastly, and most exciting to me, is the announcement of our link-tracking service, LinkLog. Available at http://linklog.blogflux.com the service allows you to track all links clicked on your site by just adding some JavaScript to your site. The service is very cool - it gives you a breakdown on a per day/week/month/year basis. Furthermore, if you look up info on a link, it gives you a breakdown on that link, on what page it was clicked from and what link text was used. We also track unique clicks and total clicks. I came across this and decided to share it. Google is offering a Hurricane search tool. It is set up to specifically find information about hurricane's aftermath with a greater ease. They have worked with the American Red Cross, Yahoo, Microsoft and other organizations to create a large index of public information. They also mentioned www.KatrinaSafe.com as a resource for Katrina information. Go Google!

People are falsely trying to increase their pr score

Google has updates it's ranking algorithm. We have seen a change in our PR score and we are loving it. Things that Google is lowering ranking for is hidden text spam. Links from automated link exchange programs are not doing as well either. If you are spamming change your plan because they are seeing it and moving you down for it.
